As the number of ehealth applications rises, there appears to be a growing divide between who developers think are using their products ('healthy, fit, not-sick!'), and actual patients. Although their designs help to manage patients' increasingly complex health needs, new applications cater to the 'worried well' - people who can easily learn the technology, who are free from pain and who can consistently track symptoms - versus actual sick people.

Patients are more engaged in their care, just by seeing the doctor’s notes.

Sharing of the doctor’s notes with patients is a growing movement in the US.  We are all seeking to move to a patient centred world. Access to and control over their electronic health record, including notes, empowers and enables patients. 

We will know we have arrived when we call them “patient’s notes” instead of “doctor’s notes”.

The Toronto Hacking Health Hackathon 2013 was a huge success - 350 people - 42 projects.

Three Patients Canada advisers attended as mentors, helping to bring the patient voice to the design of the projects. For a project to succeed, patients need to find the software interface intuitive, relevant and engaging.
